Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas Not Happy For Marcos Burial

By Alon Calinao Dy:  Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas was not happy about the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) to allow a hero's burial for the late "dictator" Ferdinand Marcos.

Reports said, Villegas believes that the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986, Filipinos would always remember that Philippines had experienced a cruel ruler during Marcos regime.

"I am very sad. The burial is an insult to the EDSA spirit," Villegas, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said after the Supreme Court decided to bury Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The Archbishop also believes that Filipinos would lose its freedom of democracy once Marcos is allowed to be buried at LNMB. He added "It mocks our fight to restore democracy. I am puzzled and hurt, and in great grief."

In a viral blog post of Mr. Alon Calinao Dy, he said "I wondered why these religious organizations would not allow the late Marcos to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani when in fact the former president built many projects in the country that Filipinos still enjoyed these days."

According to some reports, Archbishop Villegas served Cardinal Sin as a private secretary for 25 years when Filipinos ousted Marcos and restored of what they called "Philippine Democracy on February 25, 1986.

Whether Filipinos agree or not that the late president Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., is a hero or not, the fact still remains these days that the Philippine government had been ruled by these corrupt government officials.

First problem is the fact that many Filipinos are still poor today. Secondly, human rights abuses and other wrongdoings actually continued after Marcos regime since political and religious leaders took advantage and abused their power. lastly, it does not change the fact that Filipinos had been brainwashed by oligarchs and most of the time they controlled on the way we think and act because of some corrupt journalists who mislead Filipinos.

I think the massive problem of illegal drugs in the country is one of the top priorities of Duterte administration nowadays. Filipinos should continue to support the current administration of its fight against illegal drugs because it is the best interest for everyone.
