Catholic Bishops: OK To Forgive Senator Leila De Lima

By Alon Calinao Dy: Reports all over social media that some Catholic bishops defended Senator Leila de Lima over the allegations that linked her to the illegal drug trade in the Philippines particularly inside the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

In the last few months, some Catholic bishops expressed alarm over the "public shaming" of Sen. Leila de Lima by President Duterte in regards to her private affair to her personal driver Ronnie Dayan.

Now that Sen. De Lima admitted her relationship with the married man, reports said that the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has kept their silence about this matter.

What is alarming, according to the reports on social media, some priests have expressed their views regarding this recent admission and said that it's OK to forgive Senator Leila de Lima for as long as she confessed her mistakes.

When people called Sen. De Lima as an "immoral woman" and linked her to receive drug money from high-profile inmates to fund her senatorial campaign, CBCP's reactions seemed to believe that President Duterte is "abusing his executive power."

In a blog post of Mr. Alon Calinao Dy, he defended President Duterte that what Duterte said in a couple of months ago about the Church, journalism, politicians, police were all true that "there is a veil of hypocrisy."

I don't understand why some priests and bishops interfere in the dirty world of politics as they are supposedly the ones who taught us about being faithful to our partners and why it's so easy for them to forgive Sen. De Lima and why it is hard for them to grant forgiveness to the late Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. as they are one of the organizations who ignited a People Power Revolution 1 when FEM was still a president.
