Senator Kiko Pangilinan Wants To Suspend Duterte Supporters' Facebook
Facebook became a number one social media platform that really helped President Rodrigo Duterte win his presidency last May 2016 elections and against Philippine biased media who wanted to put him down. This is where all Duterte supporters have a strong connection to one another, even one is poor or rich for as long you are a Facebook user, one has a voice.
In a blog post of Mr. Alon Calinao Dy, he said "Thanks to Facebook because it gives anyone an opportunity especially the poor people to have a strong voice and say what they really want. They want a real change, so they decided to support President Duterte's advocacy. Whoever wants to intimidate Duterte supporters, it is because they don't like the current administration."
According to some reports, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan wants suspend Facebook users and other social media platforms for spreading lies and for commenting against him.
According to some reports, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan wants suspend Facebook users and other social media platforms for spreading lies and for commenting against him.
Senator Pangilinan said, “more than being an online platform, Facebook may be described as a de facto media company or publisher that should be responsible and accountable for the content it distributes and allows to be distributed, in order to protect the national discourse from fabricated and false news.”
But today's news, Filipino readers have lost confidence to some paid media particularly those who had tried to circulate fake news against President Rodrigo Duterte. They had done it before and a lot of netizens have become aware about this. They have seen this before and during May elections last year.
I don't think there is a problem on social media. Although it is true that there are a lot of fake news out there, but who started these social media trolls. I don't think it comes from Duterte supporters. Of course, it started from some Philippine biased media who wanted to tarnish the good image of the president in and outside the country.
