Who Will Be The Next Philippine President in 2016?

By Alon Calinao Dy: 2016 election for president is coming and everyone is wondering who will be the next president of the Philippines. Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Ejercito and Vice President Jejomar Binay are the two top contenders who have a huge following to make their dreams come true to be the most powerful person in the country. These political leaders are as superstars as Kobe Bryant and Lebron James in the NBA, and their followers are loyal to support them and would do anything for them.

Since they are both famous, they also have some controversies that need explanations to the public. Erap had been involved in graft and corruptions during his term as a president from June 30, 1998 to January 20, 2001 that led him to imprisonment, but had handed a pardon by former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who now has the same case as Mayor Erap, while Binay allegedly involved in unexplained wealth and overpriced building in Makati City worth more than 2 billion Pesos.

In the Philippines, it does not matter whether a politician has an impending case or not, just as long as he can generate the majority vote of the masses he is OK with that. When election comes, fame and money matter the most to win the ballot. People easily forget what they have done in our nation, whether it is good or bad. The last thing they remember is the most recent help they receive from them like money or any assistance.

The fact that this seems like a tradition the politicians do not care much to do the things they love doing. You know what I mean because it starts in letter C and ends up with tion. You can say whatever things about them, but the truth is, it actually does not affect them. It is the same old story that money, power, and fame are important things for them to succeed in their political careers.

But even if people want a big change in our nation, they cannot do so because they have no other choice to look for a good leader who has a better agenda in our land. Politics is too much and affects almost everything in the field of business, religion, etc. Keen observers know how powerful politics are. That is why some politicians who have tasted in the promised land of politics are willing to die just to retain their offices and power.

In this coming 2016 presidential election, do you believe you hold the power to vote an honest leader? If you exercise the power to vote, make yourselves being felt and voices being heard. The problem is, majority vote is coming from the needy. It is about time to properly educate them and help them realize that a real change is in their hands. It is about time to have one and strong voice to battle graft and corruption in the country.

I know a lot of you would even think that there is no cure for this disease. Please allow yourselves to start a positive change at present and always trust yourself that you can do a lot better for our beloved country.
