Archbishop Socrates Villegas Opposes Death Penalty And Calling President Duterte To Resign

By Alon Calinao Dy: Some reports on social media say that CBCP President Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas is calling President Duterte to step down as he opposes to bring back the death penalty in the Philippines.

The CBCP President has been criticized by netizens for entering into the world of politics when they couldn't even build rehabilitation centers for the drug users and those who already surrendered to the government.

However, there's no actual statement that archbishop Villegas is directly involved as one of the people who wanted to oust President Duterte from his post.

I respect the opinion of the Catholic Church regarding their political views today in the Philippines, but this does not mean that all extrajudicial killings will be blamed to the current administration.

As one netizen would comment, "father, stay away in a world of politics." I don't think this is a harsh statement coming from a netizen, but I see it as a protective measure from someone who has a high regard to every priest.
