49 Philippine Cops Were Violently Killed in Maguindanao

By Alon Calinao Dy: On January 25, Sunday, 49 members of elite Special Action Forces (SAF) of the Philippine National Police were killed by the Muslim rebels in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

Slain cop's target was alleged Malaysian bomb maker Zulkifli Abdhir, also known as "Marwan," who was one of the most wanted alleged terrorists in the world, with $5 million reward money. 

In an interview with Representative Rodolfo Biazon in Aksyon TV5, a chairman of the house committee on defense, said that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Barangay (BIFF), and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have different opinions and demands about the Bansang Moro Law.

He also stressed the enormous difficulties of the terrain, which the respondent policemen had no proper coordination with the military and did not really know the land. Lastly, he asked for more time to understand the crisis situation.

DILG Secretary Mar Roxas is now carrying an investigation about the deadly incident in Maguindanao with other cabinet secretaries and high-ranking military officials. The violent death of cops in Maguindanao is said to be one of the deadliest single attack on the Philippine National Police (PNP).
